Here is an approximation of the thought process I went thru when I planned this trip back in February:
1. Canal boat in the UK! Big fun!
2. Yikes, the UK is super expensive and compared to the US, bereft of kid fun activities.
3. Let’s rent a houseboat in the US instead.
So it is I find myself floating around in a gigantic and overly luxurious houseboat on Lake Lanier, about an hour north of Atlanta. The rental company only had one size, which sleeps ten, and includes a hot tub, full kitchen, etc. Very decadent. Super fun. The water is extremely warm and this lake is full of little islands that make it fun to cruise around. At night one just pulls up on an island. You get full power and air conditioning (pretty vital in Georgia, trust me!) via a generator that runs continuously,
